The PRME   were unveiled at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit in Geneva in July 2007. In the words of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon: "The Principles for Responsible Management Education have the capacity to take the case for universal values and business into classrooms on every continent".

Following the launch of the PRME,  the Global Compact Office has  become a member of the PRME Steering Committee , along with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), the Aspen Institute's Business and Society Program, the European Academy for Business in Society (EABIS), the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI), and Net Impact. The Global Compact Office also hosts the PRME Secretariat.

In its first year of development (2007-2008), the initiative seeks to give adopting business schools and other management-related academic institutions a leading role: to define a set of good practices on implementation and reporting of the PRME. This will set the stage for a Global Forum for Responsible Management Education , to be convened by the end of 2008, where Business schools and academic institutions that have adopted the principles will be the Forum's main actors.

The PRME Steering Committee has set up a very light formal procedure for adoption  of the principles - requiring a letter (by mail or by email) signed by the highest executive in the institution committing to the adoption and implementation of the PRME and to complete a basic questionnaire (see document attached). All this should be addressed to the PRME Steering Committee (c/o to the Head of the PRME Secretariat, PRMEsecretariat@unprme.org">PRMEsecretariat@unprme.org ).

In the first three months of operations, the PRME are reaching 100 business schools and related associations as participants. When we reach 100 participants we will unveil this list and I would like to encourage you to consider this possibility for your important academic institution. Be assured that we will very happy if your institution took a leading role in this initiative.

Please do not hesitate to contact Fred Dubee<freddubee@gmail.com> or Dr. Manuel Escudero   <escuderom@un.org>, Head of Global Compact Academic initiatives should you need further information or clarifications.
